Kedarnath Temple opened its gates for devotees on 2nd May 2026 and will remain open till around 6th November 2026 (tentative). Summer and autumn are considered the best seasons for visiting. Below is a seasonal breakdown:
The temperature ranges from 17°C to 30°C, making the weather pleasant and ideal for spiritual travel. This is the most recommended time for the Kedarnath Yatra.
Heavy rainfall leads to frequent landslides and road closures. Travel during this season is not advisable due to safety risks.
The post-monsoon period brings clear skies and lush greenery. However, temperatures start dipping, so carrying woollens is essential.
Due to extreme cold and heavy snowfall, the temple remains closed. The idol of Lord Kedarnath is shifted to Ukhimath for worship during these months.
Here are the different ways to reach Kedarnath:
The nearest airport is Jolly Grant Airport in Dehradun, located about 238 km away. Taxis from the airport can take you to Gaurikund.
The nearest railway station is Rishikesh, located 216 km before Kedarnath. From here, buses and cabs are easily available.
Buses from ISBT Kashmiri Gate to Rishikesh, Haridwar, and Srinagar are available. From these towns, shared taxis and buses go up to Sonprayag. Gaurikund, the last motorable point, requires a further trek.
If you do not want to trek to Kedarnath, you can opt for a helicopter ride. Helicopter services are available from helipads such as Phata, Guptkashi, and Sersi. Most packages include a VIP pass for Darshan.
